The moment somebody takes the podium to share a goodbye note, people expect them to be past students who pad their answers in the exam with songs expecting that the over-burdened examiner would merely skim through the pages and give marks based on the length of each answer. The speaker is expected to roam in the memory lane for a couple of minutes making someone flow in the sentiments and the other bored to death.
But don’t worry; I am not going to do either of these. New Year Celebrations has already started, so for God’s sake let’s talk about some goodbyes taking a view at it from a different angle.
Have you ever noticed the different shades of Goodbye? Goodbyes can be loud, morn, sad, low, weighty yet witty, any emotion you could relate to. And these emoticons on the social media have helped to evolve the sense of Goodbye.
Not all goodbyes are permanent or dramatic. There is a casual goodbye of your neighbor to see you tomorrow at the same place for an evening walk.
There are goodbyes of the parents, waving frantically, fighting tears when kids board on their city of education or work. The goodbyes and fervent promise to keep in touch of your old town friends are always tinged with the melancholy undertone. “God Knows, when next? “
There is the “Sweet bitter” form of parting which lovers face during goodbyes; just not ready to bear the burden of tear till the time they meet next. The goodbyes which make them start missing each other just from the moment it arrives. Parting up of lovers through mutual consent can be a goodbye of relief and riddance; when both enjoy it and are excited about the new arrival of freedom into their lives.
However its much easier to say goodbye to objects than to people. Good riddance to bad rubbish, as the saying goes. But even this surprises us a lot of time when we are just not ready to dump something just for the mere emotions it is wrapped up with; may be someone close gifted you or you bought it from the last penny of your low budget pocket money or may be with your first salary. Anything it is, not surely a thing to be send to dumped zone. It has to be real torn, rusted and dirtied to be away from us.
You would have experienced the same heartbreak finally bidding your SLR camera Adios, since film manufacturing companies have shut down. You would have no option but to make it to sleep, a device which once developed the beautiful memories of your life, sure heartbreak! But this is how it goes; the objects are cremated and bagged.
One idle fantasy of bidding a big Goodbye of every mankind could be to illness, natural calamities or even to human calamities (as they meet us more often) but unfortunately they are rigid enough to be your uninvited guest and immune to your shout of bye.
How we wish we could permanently say goodbye to all such depressing ailments and disasters to have a happy and prosperous world around. But I would still chose to live in fantasy, hoping the day of peace would come. And let 2015 be that one chapter of peace in future to us.
